Background
The Razrez Raspadsky coal mine (разрез Распадский) is a surface mine in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia.
It is part of the Raspadskaya coal mining complex. Raspadskaya PJSC, a subsidiary of Evraz, operates the entire Raspadskaya coal mining complex.[11] Evraz announced in December 2021 that it was planning to spin off Raspadskaya Coal Company, but these plans were cancelled in March 2022 due to the sanctions against Russia.[12]
The Razrez Raspadsky coal mine has 4 Mtpa of capacity, according to the company's website.[13] The mine produces coking coal. Mining is mainly performed by the traditional open method as coal seams lie at a large slope.[13] As of mid-2022, coal from the mine was supplied to metallurgical companies in Russia as well as exported to Asia-Pacific countries through the ports in Russia's Far East.[14]
In 2021 the mine produced 3.2 million tonnes of coal, while 2020 production was 0.9 million tonnes.[15] Production was suspended in 2020 due to weak market conditions, but operations were resumed in the end of 2020.[15] According to the company's 2021 annual report, an investment project was approved for the acquisition of electric excavator to replace the diesel-hydraulic excavator and two output machines.[15] The mine's production increased significantly in 2022 reaching 4.7 million tonnes.[16]
In March 2024, new equipment was being delivered to the mine.[17] 2023 and 2024 production levels were not known.
